SINCE OPENING IN 1996, COBURN PLACE HAS PROVIDED HOUSING, SUPPORT SERVICES, OUTREACH, AND ADVOCACY TO MORE THAN 1,000 ADULTS AND 1,200 CHILDREN. ALL OF THIS WORK CONTINUES TO BE DRIVEN BY THE MISSION OF COBURN PLACE: "EMPOWERING PEOPLE IMPACTED BY INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE." FROM 1996 UNTIL 2015, COBURN PLACE PROVIDED TRANSITIONAL HOUSING AND SUPPORT SERVICES IN 35 ONSITE APARTMENT UNITS TO ADULT SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND THEIR CHILDREN. OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS, COBURN PLACE HAS EMBARKED ON AN IN-DEPTH EVALUATION PROCESS TO DETERMINE AND ENHANCE THE SERVICES THAT SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE NEED, WANT, AND USE. WHILE ON-SITE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING REMAINS COBURN PLACE'S FLAGSHIP PROGRAM, VARIOUS SUPPORT SERVICES AND PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO PROMOTE SELF-SUFFICIENCY, WELL-BEING, SAFETY, AND HOUSING STABILITY ARE ALSO OFFERED TO ANY SURVIVOR OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. IN 2016, COBURN PLACE LAUNCHED ITS ROBUST COMMUNITY HOUSING AND OUTREACH PROGRAM OFFERING SUPPORT SERVICES AND RESOURCES TO ANY SURVIVOR OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, NOT ONLY THOSE SEEKING TRANSITIONAL HOUSING. OUTREACH AND ADVOCACY SERVICES ARE PROVIDE TO SURVIVORS IN THE COMMUNITY SEEKING ASSISTANCE, THOSE ON THE WAITLIST FOR HOUSING, THOSE LIVING ONSITE IN TRANSITIONAL HOUSING UNITS AND THOSE LIVING IN COMMUNITY BASED UNITS. THE INCREASING NUMBER OF SURVIVORS AND THEIR CHILDREN BEING ASSISTED WITH ADDITIONAL SERVICES IS STRETCHING THE SPACE AVAILABILITY AND USAGE WITHIN THE EXISTING FACILITY AT 604 E. 38TH STREET, INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA. THUS, CREATING A NEED FOR COBURN PLACE TO LOOK TO NEAR-VICINITY REAL ESTATE TO EXPAND THE COMMUNITY HOUSING AND OUTREACH PROGRAM IS NECESSARY TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE OUTREACH SERVICES, ADVOCACY AND HOUSING TO SURVIVORS.COBURN PLACE ADVOCATES WORK WITH SURVIVORS AND THEIR CHILDREN TO CREATE THEIR OWN PLAN FOR SELF-SUFFICIENCY THROUGH THEIR OWN PERSONAL PLAN FOR INDEPENDENCE AND THEIR OWN HOUSING ACTION PLAN, WHICH MAY INCLUDE FINANCIAL PLANNING, EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE, PERMANENT HOUSING ASSISTANCE, INDIVIDUAL OR FAMILY THERAPY, HEALTH/WELLNESS EDUCATION OR REFERRALS TO OTHER RESOURCES IN THE COMMUNITY. AN ADVOCATE WORKS WITH EACH FAMILY TO ENSURE THAT COBURN PLACE IS THE BEST RESOURCE FOR THEM AS WELL AS CONNECT THEM TO OTHER SERVICES IN THE COMMUNITY. OTHER SUPPORT PROVIDED INCLUDES SUPPORT GROUPS, COMPREHENSIVE CHILDREN'S PROGRAM, LIFE SKILLS WORKSHOPS AND LANDLORD PARTNERSHIPS.
