About

The center completed 263 fair housing complaint intakes during the fiscal year, a slight increase over last years ttal of 258. Two thirds of the complaints were submitted by women, often women with children. The Center also addressed aproximately 150 non-fair housing referrals involving other housing related concerns, such as habitability issues, evictions, and subsidized housing. The Centerr has never charged any complainant for intake, investigation, fair housing testing, enforcement proceedings, negotiation, conciliation, or any other fair housing service provided. As in prior years, most complainants served by the Center are low income. Moreover, the Center, as in prior years, vigorously enforced fair housing laws. Most notably, the Centers efforts in a lawsuit for familial status discrimination against 10 gentrifying apartment complexes located in Detroit resulted in a 300,000 recovery, including s 75,000 victims fund. The Center and one of its clients also obtained a 100,001 settlement against a Macomb County housing provider for age discrimination.
