About

Theatrical Productions: Milwaukee Repertory Theater produced 13 plays in its 2018/2019 season. These plays were produced on our own 3 stages and at the Historic Pabst Theater. We presented 657 performances to an audience of 195,336 people. Tickets are priced at a substantially subsidized rate and many are fully underwritten in order to provide full access.New Play Development: In the 2018/19 Season we produced the American premiere of Andrew Bovell's Things I Know to Be True which went on to have highly successful runs in Milwaukee and Arizona. We also had great productions of Randal Myler and Dan Wheetman's Mark Twain's River of Song, Joanna Murray-Smith's Songs for Nobodies, and Lloyd Suh's The Chinese Lady; we're ecstatic to say that these latter two pieces will have continued life at other regional theaters in the 2019-20 Season. We issued new commissions with Idris Goodwin, Lloyd Suh, and Eleanor Burgess, and continued work on new plays with Ayad Akhtar, Dael Orlandersmith, Catherine Trieschmann, KJ Sanchez, and Eric Simonson and Gordon Gano. This season we're producing two world premieres; Hootenanny: The Musicale by David Lutken and Antonio's Song/I was dreaming of a son by Dael Orlandersmith and Antonio Edwards Suarez. Community Engagement: The Rep continued engagement with our Mpact Partners and other community organizations through our Power & Money series in conjunction with our productions, which explored the many ways that power and money inform our society as a whole. Conversations ranged from topics on redlining and racism in Milwaukee, to how art and literature boost a local economy. The engagement team worked collaboratively to find creative ways to amplify community voices through our conversation series.
