Mission
Community Action Coalition for South Central Wisconsin is a nonprofit working to end poverty and help people live better lives through providing housing assistance, food security, and community support across Dane, Jefferson, and Waukesha Counties.
About
Food security programs: As an emergency food operator, CAC receives and distributes food free of charge to pantries, meal sites, homeless shelters, and senior centers in Dane, Jefferson and Waukesha counties. CAC procures food from three federal food programs - the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) and the Emergency Food & Shelter Program (EFSP). Additionally, CAC receives and re-distributes donated food from a myriad of resources, such as the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive in May. Food procured by CAC totaled 3,209,997 pounds and served 462,665 duplicated individuals in 2019 providing 375,795 meals according to the reports received from meal sites and pantries. In addition, CAC provided 4,722 senior food boxes through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program. CAC provides coordination and technical assistance as well as access to funding for food handling equipment to the food pantries and meal sites in the three counties we serve. CAC coordinates the 70-member Dane County Food Pantry Network, which supports and organizes efforts to fight hunger in Dane County, as well as 20 food pantries in Jefferson and Waukesha counties.
