About

COLLECTIONS & EXHIBITS: IN 2018 THE MUSEUM CARRIED OUT SEVERAL KEY INITATIVES CENTERED AROUND COLLECTIONS AND EXHIBITS. A NEW DIRECTOR OF COLLECTIONS WAS BROUGHT ON BOARD SEPTEMBER 2018, AS WELL AS A NEW REGISTRAR IN OCTOBER. UNDER NEW LEADERSHIP, PROCESSING BACKLOG WAS VIRTUALLY ELIMINATED. A REORGANIZATION OF SEVERAL COLLECTIONS SPACES WAS UNDERTAKEN, INCLUDING SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS AT OUR OFFSITE STORAGE FACILITY. MUCH OF THIS WORK WAS CARRIED OUT WITH FUNDS FROM AN INSTITUTE OF MUSEUM AND LIBRARY SCIENCES GRANT. THE MUSEUM'S EXHIBITS ALSO RECEIVED SIGNIFICANT UPGRADES THANKS TO A GRANT FROM THE WEST FOUNDATION. A NEW CHIEF CURATOR STARTED IN JANUARY LEADING THE CURATORIAL DEPARTMENT IN ASSESSING AND EXECUTING IMPROVEMENTS ON EXHIBITS THROUGHOUT THE MUSEUM. TWO GALLERIES, IN PARTICULAR, THE WISCONSIN'S WATERWAYS ROOM AND THE SS CHIEF WAWATAM STEAM ENGINE EXHIBIT BEGAN THE PLANNING PROCESS FOR EXTENSIVE UPDATES AND ENHANCEMENTS (WORK COMPLETED IN 2019).
