CIVIC LEADERSHIP INITIATIVESFOURTEEN CAMPUSES PARTICIPATED IN THE PILOT CONSTITUTION DAY DIALOGUE INITIATIVE IN SEPTEMBER 2018. MORE DIALOGUES ON PUBLIC ISSUES ARE PLANNED FOR FALL 2019, INCLUDING A SPECIAL GUIDE ON DIALOGUE ABOUT THE 2020 CENSUS. IN FY19, THIS YEAR WE DELIVERED FACULTY DEVELOPMENT ACROSS MINNESOTA TO INCREASE AND IMPROVE COMMUNITY-ENGAGED TEACHING. NEW ENGAGED FACULTY INSTITUTES PROVIDED INTENSIVE SUPPORT TO FACULTY MEMBERS WHO CO-CREATED COMMUNITY-ENGAGED COURSES WITH COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION PARTNERS. COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE (COPS) SAW RECORD INTEREST THIS YEAR, WITH FIVE GROUPSCONNECTING 76 FACULTY, STAFF, AND PARTNERS FROM FOUR STATES FOR A YEAR OF DEEP, COHORTBASED COLLABORATIVE LEARNING. THANKS TO SEVEN OUTSTANDING MINNESOTA COP COCHAIRS, PARTICIPANTS DEEPENED THEIR CAPACITY TO DEVELOP CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE PARTNERSHIPS, DO COMMUNITY ENGAGED RESEARCH, EDUCATE CIVIC-MINDED GRADUATES, DEPOLARIZE CAMPUSES AND COMMUNITIES THROUGH DIALOGUE, AND MORE. OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA OFFICE FOR PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT AND IOWA, ILLINOIS, AND WISCONSIN CAMPUS COMPACT MAKES THIS WORK POSSIBLE.AMERICORPS PROGRAMIN FY19, THE COLLEGE HEALTH CORPS VISTA PROGRAM EXPANDED FROM 15 TO 17 PARTICIPANTS SERVING FULL-TIME AT CAMPUS-COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP SITES ADVANCING HEALTH CARE ACCESS AND HEALTH EDUCATION. IN THE PROGRAM YEAR ENDING IN 2019, PARTICIPANTS HAVE BENEFITED THOUSANDS OF LOW-INCOME PEOPLE, INCLUDING 154 WHO RECEIVED PRIMARY AND PREVENTATIVE HEALTH CARE SERVICES, 2,683 WHO PARTICIPATED IN HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAMS, 2,225 WHO RECEIVED HEALTHCARE ACCESS INFORMATION THROUGH OUTREACH INITIATIVES, AND 1,357 WHO RECEIVED EMERGENCY FOOD. PARTICIPANTS ALSO RECRUITED 383 VOLUNTEERS, WHO CONTRIBUTED 4,622 HOURS TO THESE EFFORTS, TRAINED 220 STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS, AND HELPED GENERATE $215,852 IN CASH RESOURCES AND $7,573 IN NON-CASH RESOURCES TO SUPPORT THE PARTNERSHIPS. THESE AMERICORPS MEMBERS RECEIVE EDUCATION AWARDS TO USE TOWARDS EDUCATIONAL EXPENSES OR STUDENT LOANS, AS WELL AS LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT FROM PEERS AND STAFF. THE PROGRAM HAS RECEIVED VERY POSITIVE EVALUATIONS BY PARTICIPANTS, SITE SUPERVISORS, AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS, WITH LARGE MAJORITIES REPORTING IMPROVED HEALTH KNOWLEDGE, BEHAVIORS, AND OUTCOMES.GRANTS PROGRAMMNCC, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THECAMPUS ELECTION ENGAGEMENT PROJECT, HELPED INCREASE COLLEGE STUDENT VOTER TURN OUT DURING THE 2018 MIDTERM ELECTIONS WITH STUDENT FELLOWS AWARDED TO TEN MEMBER CAMPUSES. FOUR STUDENTS WERE RECOGINZED AS PRINCIPAL COMMUNITY SCHOLARS, RECEIVING SCHOLARSHIPS THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH IOWA CAMPUS COMPACT. THE PRINCIPAL COMMUNITY SCHOLARS PROGRAM IS A COLLABORATION BETWEEN PRINCIPAL AND IOWA CAMPUS COMPACT THAT SUPPORTS THE LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS SEEKING A BUSINESS OR BUSINESS-RELATED DEGREE. THE CURRICULUM AND PROJECT HELP STUDENTS DEVELOP CRITICAL SKILLS FOR THEIR CAREERS. STUDENTS ARE SELECTED THROUGH A COMPETITIVE PROCESS TO RECEIVE A $1,000 GRANT, PARTICIPATE IN A CIVIC LEADERSHIP LEARNING COMMUNITY AND COMPLETE A COMMUNITY-BASED EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING PROJECT.RECOGNITION PROGRAMA RECORD 27 CAMPUSES PRESENTED PRESIDENTS' AWARDS TO THIS YEAR. THE AWARDS RECOGNIZE EXTRAORDINARY CIVIC AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT LEADERSHIP AMONG STUDENTS, FACULTY, STAFF, AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS FROM ALL CORNERS OF THE STATE.
