About
IN 2018, WE COMPLETED A STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS THAT DEFINES FIVE STRATEGIC IMPERATIVES THAT GUIDE OUR WORK (WHAT WE DO): RESILIENCE; FUNDRAISING; ADVOCACY; COMMUNICATIONS; AND PROGRAMS AND SERVICES. OUR RESILIENCE WORK IS A COMMITMENT TO NONPROFIT ADMINISTRATIVE BEST PRACTICES, INNOVATION, AND LEADERSHIP. OUR CORE FUNDRAISING WORK IS IN AND FOR THE SAINT PAUL PUBLIC LIBRARY. IN 2018, WE SECURED AND PROVIDED $3 MILLION OF RESTRICTED AND UNRESTRICTED FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR LIBRARY OPERATIONS, PROGRAMS, AND SPECIAL PROJECTS. OPUS & OLIVES IS OUR SIGNATURE GALA EVENT AND FEATURED FIVE NATIONALLY-RENOWNED AUTHORS SPEAKING ABOUT THEIR WORK TO 900+ GUESTS. OUR 2018 ADVOCACY EFFORTS ENDORSED AND SUPPORTED A MAJOR POLICY CHANGE IN SAINT PAUL: THE PUBLIC LIBRARY BECAME FINE FREE. PUBLIC ADVOCACY ALSO RESULTED IN INCREASED FUNDING FOR MATERIALS FOR THE LIBRARY'S COLLECTION. WE SHARE STORIES AND COMMUNICATE ACROSS MANY PLATFORMS IN ORDER TO HELP PEOPLE UNDERSTAND, EMBRACE, AND SUPPORT THE CONTEMPORARY WORK HAPPENING IN LIBRARIES EVERY DAY. AND FINALLY, WE OFFERED 61 PUBLIC PROGRAMS IN 2018 AND CONSULTED WITH 36 CLIENTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. OUR SIGNATURE PROGRAM, THE MINNESOTA BOOK AWARDS, IS ONE OF THE COUNTRY'S MOST ROBUST LITERARY RECOGNITION PROGRAMS. MORE THAN 800 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE AWARD CEREMONY, AND A STATEWIDE TOUR OF AWARD WINNING AUTHORS REACHED 14 COMMUNITIES IN 2018. MORE THAN 1,200 BOOKS WERE DONATED THROUGH THIS PROGRAM TO PUBLIC LIBRARIES IN GREATER MINNESOTA. WE ALSO DESIGNED AND OFFERED DOZENS OF PROGRAMS IN SAINT PAUL PUBLIC LIBRARY BRANCHES, RANGING FROM THE FIRESIDE READING SERIES TO CONCERTS WITH THE ROSE ENSEMBLE. WE ALSO ADMINISTER THE REGIONAL AUTHOR SERIES, CLUB BOOK, AND A STATEWIDE STUDENT WRITING COMPETITION, LETTERS ABOUT LITERATURE. LIBRARY CONSULTING CLIENT SERVICES INCLUDED STRATEGIC PLANNING, CAPACITY BUILDING, FUNDRAISING, AND MORE; IN 2018, LIBRARY STRATEGIES WORKED WITH 36 CLIENTS IN 18 STATES. WE WERE ALSO A KEY FINANCIAL AND PROGRAMMATIC PARTNER IN READ BRAVE SAINT PAUL AN INTERGENERATIONAL, CITYWIDE READING PROGRAM THAT DISTRIBUTED MORE THAN 6,000 FREE BOOKS ON THE TOPIC OF HOUSING TO STUDENTS AND ADULT RESIDENTS.
