To enhance the lives of senior dogs by committing to provide them with a forever home in our sanctuary, a long-term foster home or in an adoptive home, and to change the way people value and view older dogs.[1]
About
MARTY'S PLACE SENIOR DOG SANCTUARY CARES FOR NEARLY 25 DOGS IN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT FOSTERS A HOME-LIKE ATMOSPHERE. WE MAINTAINED AND GREW A ROBUST, ACTIVE ADULT VOLUNTEER PROGRAM AS WELL AS A YOUTH VOLUNTEER PROGRAM BASED ON A YOUNG ADULT BEING TEAMED WITH AN ADULT MENTOR. OUR VOLUNTEER GROUP ASSISTS WITH A VARIETY OF TASKS TO HELP KEEP THE SANCTUARY RUNNING SMOOTHLY AND EFFECTIVELY. WE INCREASED OUR COMMUNITY OUTREACH ACTIVITIES TO CREATE AWARENESS OF OUR PROGRAMS AND PROVIDE EDUCATION ABOUT THE VALUE OF SENIOR PETS. WE CONTINUE OUR SWIM PROGRAM FOR OUR RESIDENTS AS SWIMMING HAS BEEN SHOWN TO BE AN EFFECTIVE, LOW IMPACT EXERCISE. THIS PROGRAM CONTINUES TO GROW FOR OUTSIDE CANINE CLIENTS THAT CAN BENEFIT FROM EXERCISE, WEIGHT LOSS, MENTAL STIMULATION OR CONTROLLED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. WE CONTINUED OUR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM WITH THE LIFE SCIENCES PROGRAM AT OUR LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL YEAR ROUND. GREW OUR ADOPTION PROGRAM. WE ESTABLISHED A FORMAL OUTREACH PROGRAM TO SENIOR COMMUNITIES FROM ACTIVE ADULT DEVELOPMENTS TO NURSING CARE FACILITIES. WE HAVE BROUGHT OUR RESIDENTS FOR VISITS WHICH INCLUDED BRIEFINGS ABOUT MARTY'S PLACE AND YOGA SESSIONS. WE HAVE ALSO HOSTED GROUPS AT OUR SANCTUARY. EXAMPLES INCLUDE RESIDENTS FROM AN ASSISTED LIVING COMMUNITY FOR A SECRET SANTA PARTY AND RESIDENTS FROM A MEMORY-IMPAIRED FACILITY. WE INCREASED OUR VISIBILTY THROUGH SERVERAL MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES SUCH AS NJ.COM, JERSEY MATTERS, FIOS 1, NJTV AND FOX 5 NY.
