About

IN 2018, MISSION 14 CONTINUED TO FOCUS ON ATTRACTING A GLOBAL AUDIENCE TO DRIVE ACTION IN THE FIGHT AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND THE SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OF CHILDREN. WE OFFERED AN ADVENTURE TRIP TO CLIMB MT. KILIMANJARO ENCOURAGING EACH PARTICIPANT TO REACH OUT TO THEIR SOCIAL NETWORK FOR DONATIONS AND/OR PLEDGES TO MISSION 14. EACH PARTICIPANT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS/HER OWN TRIP COSTS SO THAT THERE WERE NO PROGRAM COSTS INCURRED FOR MISSION 14. THIS ADVENTURE AND SIMILAR FUTURE ONES HELP TO PROMOTE OUR VISION OF ENGAGEMENT - A CALL TO INDIVIDUAL ACTION, TO "BE BRAVE". THE RESULT IS NOT JUST FUNDS RAISED TO SUPPORT OUR EXISTING PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS ON THE FRONT LINES, BUT ALSO INCREASING AN ARMY OF DIFFERENCE MAKERS AT HOME,IN COMMUNITIES AND THE WORKPLACE. SEWING CENTERWE ARE COMMITTED TO WORKING WITH LOCAL NGO'S WHO SHARE OUR PASSION TO BRING JOB RELATED SKILLS TO IMPOVERISHED COMMUNITIES IN NICARAGUA. OUR PARTNERSHIP CONTINUED TO GROW WITH ORPHANETWORK, A LOCAL NGO, HELPING TO SUPPORT THE SEWING CENTER IN ITS THIRD FULL YEAR AS ITS OWN NGO IN NICARAGUA. THE SEWING CENTER CONTINUED TO PROVIDE TRAINING COURSES TO OFFER INDIVIDUAL SKILLS TRAINING ON OPERATING SEWING MACHINES AND PUTTING GARMENTS TOGETHER. THIS COURSE WAS DEVELOPED BY THE CENTER MANAGER WHO PARTNERED WITH ANOTHER ORGANIZATION AS WELL AS LOCAL FACTORY OWNERS TO IDENTIFY THE SPECIFIC NEEDS THEY WERE LOOKING FOR IN THEIR WORKFORCE. MISSION 14 WORKED WITH LOCAL NICARAGUAN BUSINESSES AS WELL AS US OWNED FACTORIES, SUCH AS NEW HOLLAND APPAREL. THESE BUSINESSES BELIEVE IN OUR TRAINING PROGRAMS AND ASSISTED US WITH DONATING USED COMMERCIAL GRADE SEWING MACHINES, FABRICS, CUTTING TABLES, AND TRAINING OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM. IN ADDITION, FABRICS, TRIMS AND PATTERNS HAVE BEEN DONATED BY BALTIMORE'S OWN SPORTS CLOTHING BRAND, UNDER ARMOUR INC. IN 2018,ORHPANETWORK PUT OVER 120 INDIVIDUALS THROUGH THE TRAINING. THE STUDENTS COME FROM LOCAL CHURCH COMMUNITIES AS WELL AS YOUNG ADULTS AGING OUT OF THE ORPHANAGE SYSTEM.HUMAN TRAFFICKING SEMINARSLAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ARE THE FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE AGAINST MODERN DAY SLAVERY BUT WITHOUT EFFECTIVE TRAINING, THEY ARE ILL-EQUIPPED. WITH LOCAL AND STATE GOVERNMENT BUDGET CUTS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING AND A LACK OF HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING ISSUES, OUR OFFICERS FIGHT A LOSING BATTLE. FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS, MISSION 14 HAS PARTNERED WITH THE MARYLAND GOVERNOR'S OFFICE OF CRIME CONTROL & PREVENTION, THE UNITED STATES ATTORNEY'S OFFICE, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, AND THE MARYLAND HUMAN TRAFFICKING TASK FORCE TO HOST THE MARYLAND HUMAN TRAFFICKING INVESTIGATORS SEMINAR. THESE ARE FREE TO INVESTIGATORS, PROSECUTORS, AND PATROL OFFICERS FROM MARYLAND, DELAWARE, VIRGINIA AND WASHINGTON, DC, BUT WE HAVE HAD ATTENDEES COME FROM AS FAR AWAY AS TEXAS, OREGON AND WASHINGTON STATE. AN ADDITIONAL ANNUAL CONFERENCE WAS ADDED HOSTING VICTIM SERVICE PROVIDERS, SOCIAL WORKERS, CASE MANAGERS, INVESTIGATORS. BOTH CONFERENCES CONTINUE TO OPERATE AT MAXIMUM CAPACITY. THIS TRAINING IS OFFERED AT NO COST TO THE LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMUNITY BECAUSE OF GENEROUS FINANCIAL SUPPORT FROM CORPORATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS. WE HAVE STARTED THE 'ADOPT-A-COP' PROGRAM THAT WILL ALLOW INDIVIDUALS TO SHOW THEIR SUPPORT FOR OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS IN PROVIDING THESE TRAINING SEMINARS.
