About

Central Pennsylvania Clinic, a clinic to care for children and adults with genetic disease, has completed its new clinic site after construction began mid-year 2015, when a 6 acre tract of land was donated by a Mennonite farmer and his wife to the clinic for the construction of a new medical facility. Patient care, and an important natural history study of pyruvate kinase disease, is now taking place there. There are 53 participants in a natural history study relating to this disease. This is about 50% of the worldwide participants. The clinic is in the process of building a medical staff. Needs assessments have determined that there is a continuing need for diagnosis and treatment of genetic diseases in the region, in which more than 90 inherited disorders have been diagnosed in the population served. The clinic has positive community support. The outlook for treatment, education, research and awareness is optimistic and hopeful. The clinic will perform a key role in the future treatment, research and awareness of genetic diseases.
