Mission
The Better Angels Society is dedicated to educating Americans about their history through documentary film, aiming to foster civic engagement and thoughtful discussion across all political ideologies.
About
Film production, outreach, and education - The society provided funding for the production and distribution of documentary films focusing on American history, which are broadcast free to the public and widely available on PBS television stations and PBS digital platforms for millions of Americans. In 2019, the society successfully endowed a ten-year partnership with the Library of Congress, the Library of Congress Lavine/Ken Burns Prize for Film, which launched in 2019 and is an annual, national prize for professional American history documentaries. The next ten years of documentary film projects have been identified and formally integrated into the society's strategic planning. The society also established a youth-focused education program, which it administers to benefit middle and high school-aged history documentary filmmakers, the next generation Angels Awards.
