Mission
Hundreds of thousands of kids in the US foster care system are unseen and suffering, left to feel like they don’t belong. America's Kids Belong exists to dramatically improve their experience and change their outcomes so that these kids can thrive in safe, loving families and supportive communities where they belong.
About
America's Kids Belong works collaboratively with the government, faith, creative and business communities to solve the foster care crisis in the U.S. In 2019 we engaged the government sphere to launch our 3rd full state-wide Collective Impact Campaign in Virginia. We engaged the business sphere and 163 businesses got involved with their time, talent, or treasure to make a difference for foster families and youth aging out of foster care. Once again, in 2019, we engaged the faith sphere. 253 Churches were contacted, educated, or engaged this year for a total of 524 Churches contacted/engaged since 2018. Within those churches, 290 individuals are now trained in trauma and are more equipped to support foster families and children. We were excited that throughout these spheres 891 volunteers donated 3771 hours to make a difference with our I Belong Project, Dream Makers Project, fund raising events, faith sphere events, and through administrative assistance. One of America's Kids Belong signature programs is the I Belong Project. With the help of the creative community, the I Belong Project is telling stories. Actually, through the I Belong Project, kids in foster care are telling their own story. In 2019, there were 26 I Belong Project video shoots across 8 states. 366 kids were able to share their story. We hit a major milestone this year as we crossed 1,000 videos produced! These kids, on camera, were able to share with potential parents and families, their personality, what makes them tick, and all the hopes they have for a future with a family who would love them. Through these videos and recruitment events at churches, hundreds of families were recruited to take the next step to learn more about foster care or attend an orientation with the goal of becoming a certified foster parent. Another signature program is Dream Makers Project, which provides support for youth that are aging out or have already emancipated from the foster care system. This year emancipated youth in 19 different states were impacted through our Dream Makers Project. Through the investment of their time and their finances, individuals, churches, and businesses helped to fulfill 241 Dreams for a total of 684 Dreams filled since the Dream Makers Project started in 2015.
