THE SIOUX EMPIRE HOUSING PARTNERSHIP (SEHP) PROMOTES INCREASING THE SUPPLY OF HOUSING FOR LOW TO MODERATE INCOME BUYERS. THE SEHP'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS, CONSISTING OF REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY, LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNITY GROUPS, ACCOMPLISHES ITS MISSION THROUGH RESEARCH, PUBLIC EDUCATION, HOUSING EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY EFFORTS AIMED AT BUILDING PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR EXPANDING HOUSING PRODUCTION. AS PART OF ITS SERVICES, THE SEHP ALSO PROVIDES HOMEBUYER AND RENTER EDUCATION.THE SIOUX EMPIRE HOUSING PARTNERSHIP WAS AWARDED ONE GRANT FROM CITI: A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $65,000 WAS AWARDED TO OUR EDUCATION DEPARTMENT. THIS GRANT ALLOWS THE PARTNERSHIP THE ABILITY TO PRESENT HOME BUYER EDUCATION FREE OF CHARGE TO INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE GOING THROUGH THE HOME BUYING PROCESS. THE EDUCATION INCLUDES BUDGETING, FINANCIAL COUNSELING, THE HOME BUYING PROCESS, OBTAINING A MORTGAGE, AS WELL AS WALKING THEM THROUGH THE CLOSING PROCESS. OUR EDUCATION DEPARTMENT SERVICES MORE THAN 650 FAMILIES YEARLY WITH A CERTIFICATION THAT ALLOWS THESE FAMILIES TO QUALIFY FOR REDUCED CLOSING FEES WITH SEVERAL TITLE COMPANIES. A NEW HISPANIC WEBSITE WAS CREATED TO SERVE THE SPANISH SPEAKING RESIDENTS OF SIOUX FALLS AND THE SURROUNDING MSA. THIS WEBSITE WAS LAUNCHED IN THE SPRING OF 2014 AND IS A DUPLICATION OF THE ENGLISH VERSION OF THE SEHP WEBSITE. ALL OF THE PROGRAMS OFFERED ON THE ENGLISH WEBSITE ARE OFFERED ON THE SPANISH WEBSITE. TO MAXIMIZE THE OUTREACH OF THIS WEBSITE, THE PARTNERSHIP HIRED A SPANISH SPEAKING EDUCATOR. THIS INDIVIDUAL WILL MARKET THIS WEBSITE THROUGH HISPANIC BUSINESSES, EMPLOYERS WITH LARGE NUMBER OF HISPANIC EMPLOYEES, AS WELL AS AT CULTURAL EVENTS, CHURCHES AND SERVICE CLUBS.THE SIOUX EMPIRE HOUSING PARTNERSHIP HAS EXPANDED ITS RENTAL EDUCATION SERVICES TO PROVIDE EDUCATION TO CLIENTS OF OR RENTERS OF OTHER ORGANIZATIONS. ONE ORGANIZATION IS A NON-PROFIT OFFERING HOUSING AND LIFE-SKILLS EDUCATION TO FAMILIES WHO ARE HOMELESS.
