NYC Development of Youth and Community (DYCD) Greener/Cleaner NYC: The Green Champions program engaged young adults from the community in a series of renewable energy classes. They learned about solar energy, hydroelectric and wind energy, using a combination of hands on practice and theory. They also did outreach promoting Earth Day and recycling. Parks Equity:Community Events: In 2018 the 5th Annual 5k walk/run attracted borough wide attention with the special guest appearance of Olympic Champion and Human Rights Activist Dr. John Carlos. Over 300 adults and children participated in fitness activities and additional community members came to the jazz concert and resource fair that day. Family Summer Movies were held in the same park, encouraging use of the neighborhood green spaces. In addition, ENYRLDC partnered with a local garden to increase a longer growing season through the use of green houses. This project will be expanded next year. Healthy Aging: Healthy Aging program promoted exercise and increased socialization at Senior centers, senior housing locations and at annual 5 k walk/run.
