About
Midwife and Community Engagement Programs: In poor regions where access to state health services is limited, traditional midwives often provide essential maternal & child healthcare. GPA supports these essential practitioners by offering workshops in evidence-based pediatric primary care, prenatal care, birth techniques & management, recognition of risk factors, danger signs, newborn care & a protocol for emergency-care response. In 2019, GPA trained more than 500 midwives & health promoters in Mexico and Guatemala, and supported a leadership program for 36 representatives of the Chiapas Midwife Movement. Our Youth Leadership program equipped 256 indigenous youths with the skills to be dynamic agents of change, and we trained 52 medical staff on Respectful Maternity Care. Our programs benefitted more than 45,000 people.
