The Agreements: - include the community’s 20-year vision, shared commitments, expected outcomes, a spatial management plan, impact monitoring plan, and more. - provide financial, scientific, and technical resources to protect coral reefs: (1) Mentoring, training, tools, infrastructure to increase agency (2) Support for management plans (3) Science-based impact measurement (4) Long-term, leveraged financing
About
Regional Reef ProtectionThe Organization supports management programs across two countries in Micronesia by providing scientific, financial, and technical expertise that local communities need to protect their coral reefs and livelihoods. The Organizations formal agreements protect more than 350,000 acres of coral reef, and provides key assistance to communities that represent an additional 250,000 acres of reef. The Organization works closely with national governments, local leadership, and community groups to implement that Micronesia Challenge, a region-wide initiative to conserve 30% of the marine environment and 20% of terrestrial environment by 2020. The Organization emphasizes sustainable public-private financing so that communities can plan for long-term coral management, and leverage Palaus $4.5 million annual Green Fee with global funding opportunities to support community action.
