The mission of Comfort Food Community is to contribute to the health of our community through the inspirational power of good food.

About

Maintained high service standards and served a record number of households at our Greenwich and Cossayuna Pantries. In total, we served 15,302 household members, distributing 228,197 lbs of food and household product. Our YES! Backpack Program Increased weekly participation to 46 students in 2019,an annual increase of 95%. Added a 5-week summer backpack program. Began home deliveries, making participation easier and more convenient for students that need food over weekends and school breaks. Our Community Health program collaborated with Hudson Headwaters Health Network to launch a 9 month pilot program targeting the improvement of key obesity and blood sugar metrics in a core group of high-risk diabetic patients through the delivery of fresh food prescriptions. Blood pressure, BMI, and A1c improvements were recorded in over 50% of participating patients.Delivered over 75,000 lbs. of produce to participating patients; 72% of fresh food purchases were made with local farms. Met with 1,970 though the Farmacy clinic. Over 650 individuals were successfully referred to food and other community support resources. The Fresh Food Collective Program recovered 100,000 lbs of food from Farm and Retail locations that otherwise would have been thrown away.Distributed to 23 pantries, 4 libraries, and 4 senior residences throughout Washington, Warren and Saratoga counties. Partnered with 26 local farms to recover food and purchase produce for low-income households.
