STRATUS AVIATION FOUNDATION'S PRIMARY PURPOSE IS TO PROMOTE AVIATION THROUGH MENTORSHIP, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION. FULL-TIME PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS AND NON-FULL TIME PARTICIPANTS WORK TOGETHER WITH MEMBERS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO BUILD A FULL-SCALE AIRCRAFT, FLIGHT TRAINING DEVICES AND SIMULATORS. THEY ALSO DEVELOP THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF DRONE TECHNOLOGY UTILIZING THE POWER OF MENTORSHIP THROUGH STEM EDUCATION. STRATUS AVIATION FOUNDATION ALSO FACILITATES ITS PROGRAMS WITHIN OTHER NON-PROFIT GROUPS AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS BY SUPPLYING THE RESOURCES AND MENTORSHIP.

STRATUS AVIATION FOUNDATION ("SAF") OPERATES ITS MAIN PROGRAMS AT WINGS FIELD EVERY SATURDAY OF THE YEAR, MINUS HOLIDAYS AND CERTAIN SUMMER WEEKENDS. SAF ALSO SUPPORTS AN AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM IN COATESVILLE, PA THAT MEETS SEVERAL TIMES PER WEEK THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR. DURING OUR REGULAR SCHEDULED SESSIONS, STUDENTS, PARTICIPANTS AND MENTORS MEET AT THE FOUNDATION HANGAR AT WINGS FIELD IN BLUE BALL, PA. SAF RUNS 5-8 HOUR SESSIONS WHERE PARTICIPANTS WORK TOGETHER TO ACCOMPLISH THE MAIN GOALS AND FOCUS ON STEM-RELATED LEARNING WHILE COLLABORATING ON VARIOUS PROJECTS. THERE WAS A TOTAL OF 18 PRIMARY PARTICIPANTS BETWEEN WINGS AND COATESVILLE AND MANY PART-TIME AND SINGLE DAY PARTICIPANTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.THE FIRST RV-12 KIT AIRPLANE WAS COMPLETED IN DECEMBER AND WILL NOW GO ON TO FINAL INSPECTIONS. STUDENTS AND PARTICIPANTS STARTED WORKING ON A SECOND RV-12 KIT WHERE THEY HAVE CONSTRUCTED ONE WING, THE TAIL SECTION AND ARE NOW FOCUSING ON THE FUSELAGE.FLIGHT SIMULATOR CONSTRUCTION. SEVERAL PARTICIPANTS CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON FLIGHT SIMULATOR TECHNOLOGY. OVER THE LAST YEAR, THE GROUP HAS IDENTIFIED AND WORKED WITH SEVERAL SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE CONFIGURATIONS THAT WILL EVENTUALLY BE INCORPORATED INTO A CUSTOM-BUILT CIRRUS SIMULATOR THAT IS UNDERWAY AT SAF.DRONE AND PHOTOGRAPHY EDUCATION CONTINUE TO BE A FOCUS AND AREA OF INTEREST FOR MANY OF THE PARTICIPANTS. TWO OF THE PARTICIPANTS EARNED THEIR FAA DRONE LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION LAST YEAR.
