About this organization
Mission
The Rendell Center promotes civic education and engagement. To accomplish this, the center offers opportunities for educators and students to develop knowledge, practices and dispositions of engaged citizenship. For educators, the center creates curriculum content, pedagogical tools, and professional development experiences. The Rendell Center also provides to students of all ages and grade levels opportunities, events, and spaces for dialogue about and engagement with issues of citizens and civics.
About
In the summer of 2018, the Rendell Center partnered with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History to offer an engaging weeklong seminar entitled 'Our Constitution: The Bill of Rights'. Held this past July, 35 teachers from across the U.S. gathered at Lafayette College (Easton, PA) to examine how our nation's founders' vision for the Bill of Rights has been interpreted and revised by the Supreme Court. Led by our summer institute director, Dr. Bruce Murphy, the seminar's discussions and materials helped attendees to gain a better understanding of our Bill of Rights protections today, how we arrived here, and where the court might be going. In 2019, the Rendell Center received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for their July 2019 summer teacher institute on the First Amendment for 30 teachers from across the United States.
