About
Heartwood Educational Collaborative is non-profit, educational collaborative providing educational support for K-12 students and their families enrolled in publicly funded, independent study and home school programs in California. We provide a Waldorf inspired curriculum in an organized community environment to support students who may not be served by traditional, education methods in traditional, public school classrooms. Waldorf teaching methods have been evolving and adapting for over 100 years and have proven to successfully guide generations of students to become self-learners and responsible global citizens. In 2018 the program suffered a major setback when the publicly funded charter school that provided funding for the teachers and students in our program self-revoked their charter. With this self-revocation the funding we relied on was significantly reduced and eventually cut completely. We relied on fundraising from the families to keep our program afloat which was successful but with a severely reduced budget. For the beginning of the 2018/19 school year we operated as a cooperative and helped support the families who formed their own classes. Each grade's families hired and directed the employment of an oversight educator but with no public funding whatsoever. We also started the process of researching the possibility of applying for an independent study charter.
