Mission

Old Friends Club's mission is to cultivate joy in the lives of adults with cognitive challenges, and nourish the wellbeing of family gargivers. We offer social activities for people living with dementia, and respite, support and resource for the family caregivers.

About

Social, dementia-focused, small-group respite programs started in Carnation in September 2015 and has grown to four Clubs, adding programs in Kirkland, Sammamish and Bellevue. We will expand further to meet the need in more neighborhoods. Each respite program can serve up to 12 - 15 people per day. At each Club, program participants are welcomed as Club Members, fostering a sense of belonging. Each person is seen and heard and knows they are valued. Experienced staff and trained volunteers help Members engage in animated discussions and activities despite the challenges in communication and reasoning that accompany these diseases. Group members share stories, play word or card games, create art, enjoy music, get moving with dance or exercise, share a meal, and find ways to be part of the community. At least one of the two staff members at each location is trained to assist with personal needs to allow Members to remain with the group longer as diseases progress.
