Mission

KAVOD's mission is to provide aid to Holocaust Survivors who have emergency day to day needs for food, medicine, and other urgent unmet needs. We serve Holocaust Survivors living at or below poverty line any where in the United States. KAVOD is designed to make sure these men and women live out their lives with dignity and respect by issuing aid by paying providers directly or in the form of gift cards to grocery stores and pharmacies near where they live. KAVOD works with Agencies that serve Survivors in order to connect with these individuals in a strictly confidential basis. The decisions of KAVOD are overseen by a diverse and experienced Board of Community Leaders with the majority being 2nd Generation or children of Holocaust Survivors.

About

In the most recent data, it has been estimated that there are 80,000 Survivors living in the United States and that over 1/3rd are living at or near poverty levels. It is unconscionable and unacceptable that these courageous people, who’ve endured so much already, are living their remaining years struggling with day-to-day essential needs. The support these Survivors receive does not allow them to afford what is needed to live a dignified life. Many are choosing between heat or food, medicine or rent. Others have dire living conditions because they cannot invest what is needed to repair their homes. KAVOD was created to help these Survivors live their remaining years with dignity and honor. 100% of every dollar received by KAVOD serves Holocaust Survivors with unmet Emergency needs. Recognizing the importance of reaching any Survivor regardless of where he or she lives, Seed the Dream Foundation partnered with KAVOD to establish the KAVOD Survivors of the Holocaust Emergency Fund (SHEF) in 2019. KAVOD SHEF exponentially multiplies the dollars and vital services directly reaching Survivors as well as increases awareness to this crisis. Leveraging the funds raised through a special philanthropic national matching initiative, KAVOD SHEF works with 34 communities across the United States. The KAVOD SHEF local community partners are raising new dollars that are matched 1:1 by The Joseph Gringlas KAVOD SHEF National Fund which consists of our National Funder Coalition of over 20 philanthropists and foundations. This Initiative is bringing millions of additional dollars to the Survivor community. Due to this effort, over 45,000 Emergencies have been filled as a secondary resource since we began. The need is growing every day and we have limited time to support this vulnerable senior community regardless of where they live.
