Accomplishments

  • The black repertory theatre of kansas city has not only affected the kansas city theatre landscape by introducing titles never before performed in our area but the true feather in our cap is the ability to reach students. through our rise repertory in school empowerment program we have reached over 50 students and engaged them through original playwriting. these students who never thought their voices would be heard now have a platform to articulate thoughts, feeling, hopes and dreams. in addition to those students who had hands on experience with brtkc, over five hundred student parents, teacher and audience member who got to see these works performed at the school level had their lives touched as well. the 2018-19 season also saw the young actors summer conservatory come to life. partnering with penn valley community college we were able to engage students with artistic/educators in drama, dance, music and african american theatre history. these classes came together in a performance of the broadway musical sarafina!, feature in student talent and supported by local professionally actors and musicians.
