TO ENABLE MILITARY VETERANS TO EXPERIENCE SOLACE AND SATISFACTION THROUGH OUR WRITING PROGRAM. OUR VISION IS A WORLD WHERE PEOPLE APPRECIATE THAT WRITING CAN BOTH HEAL AND ENTERTAIN. MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMS ARE AN IMPORTANT COMPONENT IN THE HEALTH OF RETURNING MILITARY VETERANS. THE VETERANS VOICES WRITING PROJECT INC. (FORMERLY HOSPITALIZED VETERANS WRITING PROJECT, INC.) HELPS VETERANS HEAL FROM THE PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAUMA OF WAR AND MORAL INJURY THROUGH THERAPEUTIC WRITING. VETERANS PARTICIPATING IN THE WRITING PROGRAM HAVE STATED THEY FEEL AS THOUGH THEY HAVE BEEN GIVEN A VOICE TO EXPRESS THEIR PERSONAL EXPERIENCES AND INNERMOST THOUGHTS WHICH PROVIDES THEM WITH A SENSE OF WELL-BEING, PRIDE, VALUE AND WORTHINESS.

VVWP RECEIVES 450-600 MANUSCRIPTS ANNUALLY AND AROUND 100 ARE PUBLISHED IN EACH OF THE THREE ISSUES OF OUR MAGAZINE, VETERANS' VOICES. THE BENEFITS OF THIS PROGRAM TO HEAL AND EXPERIENCE SATISFACTION, CAN BEST BE DESCRIBED BY ONE OF OUR VETERAN AUTHORS: "THIRTEEN YEARS AGO I HAD A HEART ATTACK AND COULD NOT WRITE. MY DOCTOR ASSIGNED A WRITING MENTOR TO ME TO REBUILD MY ABILITY TO WRITE. AFTER A YEAR AND A HALF, I PRODUCED 15 STORIES WHICH WERE PUBLISHED IN VETERANS' VOICES MAGAZINE AND FOR THAT I AM GRATEFUL. I HAVE PRODUCED A BOOK, MY BABY AND OTHER STORIES, AND INCLUDED MY STORIES FROM VETERANS' VOICES. I GOT MY START IN VETERANS' VOICES AND HOPE TO GET PUBLISHED AGAIN."
