Beck is the place where African-American history and Culture are preserved. Beck was established in 1975 as a primary repository of black history and culture in East Tennessee and is the storehouse of regional African American history and culture with an extensive archive collection. The historic mansion features premier exhibits, artwork, artifacts and memorabililia. Beck has a full research center, an extensive library collection and a cultural experience like none other. Beck remains dedicated year-round to researching, collecting, conserving, preserving and exhibiting works of art, writings, artifacts, memorabiliia, and other evidence of contributions relating to the history and culture of African Americans in this region while fostering and promoting educational, artistic and cultural activities and experiences. Beck reaches more than 20,000 guest through the center and its outside community speaking engagements.
