About
Advocacy - CAPSES met with the California Department of Education (CDE) to assure that nonpublic schools have access to common core curriculum at the same cost that public school districts pay for their curriculum and instructional materials. Also, CAPSES ensures that nonpublic schools have access to the Digital Library and the Smarter Balance Assessment System as appropriate for our pupils. CAPSES supported a joint legislative audit of AB-114 which transferred responsibility for IEP-driven children's mental heath services from county mental health agencies to public school districts.CAPSES schools and agencies are active in the statewide policy discussions and special education work groups that seek to raise the standard of practice in nonpublic and public schools and agencies. CAPSES and its members have participated in the California Department of Education Behavior Intervention Workgroup. CAPSES supported the passge of Assembly Bill 2657 regarding the prohibition of restraint and seclusion, advocated for the financial support of new special education teachers, and partnered with the Commission on Teacher Credentialing, public school districts and colleges to establish teacher residency programs.
