About
THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF WILMINGTON CONTRIBUTED VOLUNTEER TIME AND RESOURCES TO VARIOUS PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS IN THE COMMUNITY. WE SET UP MULTIPLE SESSIONS WITH THE FOOD BANK OF DELAWARE TO HELP SORT FOOD FOR THE NEEDY, PACKED SCHOOL SUPPLIES INTO INDIVIDUAL BACKPACKS FOR SHORTLIDGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND DAPI, AND HELD A BBQ FOR THE DELAWARE CENTER FOR HOMELESS VETS. BODY HYGIENE PRODUCTS AND ORAL HYGIENE PRODUCTS WERE MADE INTO TWO SEPARATE CARE PACKAGES AND DELIVERED TO SERVIAM GIRLS ACADEMY STUDENTS IN THE FALL AND SPRING SESSION. JUNIOR LEAGUE VOLUNTEERS ALSO TAUGHT THE SERVIAM ACADEMY GIRLS HOW TO KNIT IN THE WINTER SEASON THROUGH 3 ENRICHMENT SESSIONS SO THEY CAN MAKE THEIR OWN SCARVES AND HATS. LEAGUE MEMBERS DISTRIBUTED NON- PURCHASED ITEMS FROM OUR WHALE OF A SALE GARAGE SALE TO THE WILMINGTON COMMUNITY AT KINGSWOOD COMMUNITY CENTER. WE HELD A SERVICE DAY ON MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY AT THE YWCA WHERE WE SERVED FOOD AND COORDINATED FAMILY ACTIVITIES. THE LEAGUE HOSTED THE YOUNG WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT SUMMIT, A ONE- DAY WORKSHOP FOCUSING ON SELF-ESTEEM, FUTURE GOALS, AND EMPOWERMENT FOR JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL LADIES. THEN WE FINISHED OFF THE YEAR WITH A COMMUNITY EVENT THAT PLACED MANY WILMINGTON ORGANIZATIONS UNDER ONE ROOF FOR THE PUBLIC TO LEARN MORE ABOUT AVAILABLE RESOURCES AND ALSO ALLOWED THE ORGANIZATIONS TO NETWORK FOR POTENTIAL COLLABORATION.
