The Brandywine River Museum of Art activities, programs and facilities provide preservation of and public access to significant artistic and historic objects. Since 1971, the Museum has developed an important collection of American art with particular emphasis on the art of the Brandywine Valley (as described elsewhere in this return) and organized and presented to the public hundreds of exhibitions, many of which have been accompanied by unique scholarly publications devoted to enlarging the history of American art. Through diverse education programs designed for students, children and adults, the Museum provides an understanding and appreciation of the history and importance of the objects in its collections and special exhibition. More than 5 million people have visited the museum, including visitors from throughout the United States and many other countries who are aware of the Brandywine River Museum of Art's dedication to particular aspects of American art including regional art, illustration, still life painting, and traditions in landscape painting.
