Housing Unlimited was started by the Montgomery County Maryland chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, an advocacy and support group composed of over 700 Montgomery County families. The mission of Housing Unlimited is to address the housing crisis for adults in mental health recovery by: - Providing permanent, affordable housing opportunities - Empowering people to be live independently - Helping people move from substandard housing - Helping people move from their aging parents? homes - Providing public education, advocacy and community linkage; and - Bringing persons who need housing together in partnerships

RESIDENTIAL HOUSING - HOUSING UNLIMITED INC. PROVIDES AFFORDABLE PERMANENT HOUSING FOR PEOPLE IN MENTAL HEALTH RECOVERY IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MARYLAND. THE ORGANIZATION PURCHASES HOMES, PRIMARILY TOWNHOMES AND CONDOS, AND SERVES AS THE LANDLORD FOR ADULTS IN RECOVERY. INDEPENDENT, SAFE, PERMANENT, AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING IS AVAILABLE TO EXTREMELY LOW INCOME ADULTS. TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN (215) TENANTS ARE CURRENTLY LIVING IN HOUSING UNLIMITED'S 78 HOMES.STABLE HOUSING IS VITAL TO LONG TERM MENTAL HEALTH STABILITY AND RECOVERY. TENANTS AND STAFF WORK TOGETHER TO FOSTER HABITS AND LIFESTYLES THAT KEEP THEM HOUSED AND HEALTHY. TEAM MEMBERS VISIT TENANTS' HOMES EVERY WEEK TO ANSWER QUESTIONS, PROVIDE REQUESTED RESOURCES, AND ALSO TO CHECK THE PHYSICAL CONDITION OF PROPERTIES TO ENSURE THAT HOMES ARE WELL-MAINTAINED. THE HOUSING UNLIMITED TENANTS COUNCIL FOSTERS RECOVERY, PROMOTES COOPERATION, AND INDEPENDENCE, AND PROVIDES TENANTS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A COLLECTIVE VOICE. TENANTS COUNCIL OFFICERS RECEIVE LEADERSHIP AND SKILLS TRAINING.
