Mission

Bon Secours Community Works (BSCW) is an almost $8M, 85 employee organization with a mission "to extend the compassionate ministry of Jesus by improving the health and well-being of our community and bringing good help to those in need, especially people who are poor, dying and underserved." Established in Baltimore in 1881 by the Sisters of Bon Secours and once known for its historic Catholic hospital, Bon Secours has served West Baltimore for nearly 30 years with affordable housing and community development services delivered through its Unity Properties subsidiary; workforce development training with job placement; family and young parent support programs including Early Head Start; financial education services; and an urban farm with a food access program.

About

The Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization Program supports initiatives designed to sustain strong, stable, and thriving neighborhoods around Bon Secours Baltimore Health System. Under this program, Bon Secours has developed and now owns five senior housing buildings and four developments of scattered site family rental housing. Unity Properties, Inc works with neighborhood residents as well as government and community partners to create strong communities where people want to live, work and play. We create and maintain clean strong neighborhoods by renovating existing homes, some vacant, into low-to moderate income housing for sale to first time buyers, offer home improvement funds to home owners, connect with seniors through outreach services so that they may comfortably age in place; and coordinate a homebuyers club turning renters into home owners.
