Poisoning is the leading cause of injury related deaths in the US, ahead of motor vehicle deaths and ahead of gun related deaths. We are dedicated to preventing and minimizing injury from poisonings, 24/7, for anyone who calls or logs on for help.

In FY2019 the National Capital Poison Center provided telephone consultations for 42,347 human poison emergencies, 1,620 pet poisonings, and 11,327 medical or poison-related inquiries from the DC metro area. Other services include online guidance for poison emergencies, through webPOISONCONTROL, an online tool and downloadable app that provides help for acute, unintentional poison expsoures - the most common type of call to Poison Control. In FY2019, webPOISONCONTROL provided fully automated help for 156,064 poison exposures.See Schedule O for continuation
