About this organization
Mission
The mission of Taxpayers for Common Sense (TCS) is to achieve a government that spends taxpayer dollars responsibly and operates within its means. We work with the public, policymakers, and the media to increase transparency of the Federal Budget as an independent voice for American taxpayers.
About
Agriculture program-TCS works to educate the public about ways to create a more efficient, less expensive agricultural safety net designed to serve the interests of all farmers, ranchers, and rural communities. Activities include raising awareness of the fiscal costs of existing income-guarantee subsidies for a range of commodity crops, such as cotton, corn, and sugar, and the benefits of better performance monitoring and measurement of conservation programs to reduce soil erosion, improve water quality, and reduce liabilities and damages caused by floods and other natural disasters. TCS documents costs of federal subsidies to select agriculture commodities as a result of tariffs; and congressional appropriations for disaster relief in response to hurricanes and flooding. TCS also works to educate the public about potential direct and indirect costs and benefits of biomass and biofuels subsidies for corn ethanol, soy biodiesel, and biomass energy. TCS published analysis on its website and promoted our work on social media.
