Mission

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

About

Girl Scouting started in Hampton Roads in 1917 - honoring Girl Scouts of the USA founder Juliette Gordon Low's legacy of developing the full potential of girls. Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast serves nearly 11,500 girls in grades K through 12, regardless of means, in partnership with over 5,000 adult mentors in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. The Girl Scout Leadership Experience builds on a strong foundation of four pillars - STEM, outdoors, life skills and financial literacy/entrepreneurship through engaging hands on experiences. Girls discover, connect, and take action in their communities to make the world a better place. With support from volunteers, caregivers, and 53 full-time and 7 part-time staff members, girls receive the unique Girl Scout Leadership Experience. The council is chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA, the largest and best girl leadership organization in the world with a membership of 1.7 million girls and 750,000 adults nationally. Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
