WITH A BELIEF THAT ALL CHILDREN DESERVE OPPORTUNITIES FOR AN EDUCATION AND TO SUCCEED, BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF CENTRAL VIRGINIA OFFERS 40 TO 60 PROGRAMS TO CHILDREN AGES 6 TO 18 THAT PROMOTE ACADEMIC SUCCESS, HEALTHY LIFESTYLES, AND GOOD CHARACTER AND CITIZENSHIP. ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES PREPARE KIDS TO BE MORE ENGAGED IN THE CLASSROOM; HEALTHY LIFESTYLES PROGRAMS PROMOTE OVERALL WELLNESS THROUGH PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, HEALTHY EATING, AND MINDFULNESS; AND LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES ALLOW MEMBERS TO ORGANIZE CLUB AND COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS. CLUB PROGRAMS INCLUDE HIGH-YIELD ACTIVITIES IN FIVE CORE AREAS: THE ARTS; CHARACTER AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT; HEALTH AND LIFE SKILLS; EDUCATION, TECHNOLOGY AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT; AND SPORTS, FITNESS AND RECREATION. HIGH QUALITY PROGRAMS, COMBINED WITH AFFORDABILITY AND ACCESSIBILITY, ARE THE CLUB'S MOST EFFECTIVE STRATEGIES IN REACHING UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS THAT NEED THE CLUB MOST. ENGAGING KIDS IN ENRICHING CURRICULUMS, THE CLUB'S SUMMER READING AND STEAM (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, ARTS, AND MATH) PROGRAMS ARE PROVEN TO MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON ACADEMIC SUCCESS AMONG CLUB MEMBERS. THE CLUB IS OPEN DURING CRITICAL OUT-OF-SCHOOL-TIMES, INCLUDING EVERY DAY AFTER SCHOOL, ALL DAY DURING THE SUMMER, MOST SCHOOL BREAKS, AND SELECTED EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS. TO PROMOTE ACCESS TO KIDS WHO NEED US MOST, CLUBS ARE LOCATED IN AREAS WHERE POVERTY RATES ARE HIGH. CLUB MEMBERSHIP FEES TO FAMILIES ARE ONLY $15 TO $150 ANNUALLY AND REPRESENT ONLY 2% OF THE ORGANIZATION'S REVENUE.IN FY19, AT LEAST 65% OF THE CLUB'S REGISTERED MEMBERS QUALIFIED FOR FREE OR REDUCED-PRICE LUNCH, 48% LIVED IN SINGLE-PARENT HOUSEHOLDS, AND 57% REPRESENTED MINORITY ETHNICITIES. DURING THE MOST RECENT FIVE-YEAR PERIOD, AVERAGE DAILY ATTENDANCE HAS INCREASED BY 49% TO APPROXIMATELY 670 MEMBERS, AND 33% OF MEMBERS VISIT THE CLUB AT LEAST THREE TIMES A WEEK. A GROWING DEMOGRAPHIC WITHIN THE CLUB, TEENS REPRESENT 32% OF ATTENDEES. WITH THE SUPPORT OF HIGH-LEVEL PROGRAMS LED BY DEDICATED AND PROFESSIONALLY-TRAINED CLUB STAFF, 99% OF THE ORGANIZATION'S MEMBERS ARE PROGRESSING TO THE NEXT GRADE LEVEL ON TIME. ENSURING THAT ATTENDEES HAVE ACCESS TO HEALTHY FOODS, THE CLUB PROVIDED OVER 89,000 NUTRITIOUS SNACKS AND 65,000 WELL-BALANCED MEALS. IN ADDITION TO PRODUCING MEASURABLE RESULTS, CLUB PROGRAMS PROMOTE THE DEVELOPMENT OF BOYS AND GIRLS BY INSTILLING A SENSE OF COMPETENCE, USEFULNESS, BELONGING, AND INFLUENCE.
