About this organization
Mission
The Gardens at Callaway, a man-made landscape in a unique, natural setting, was conceived and created by Cason J. Callaway and his wife, Virginia Hand Callaway, for the benefit of mankind. In the 1940s, the 14,000 acres that comprise the Gardens today were part of the agricultural South's collection of tired, depleted cotton fields. Fortunately, the Callaways recognized the unique beauty and vast potential of the area and founded the Gardens at Callaway. Since it opened in 1952, the Gardens has inspired millions of people with its unique ecology and is committed to providing a comprehensive, technology based, and meaningful environmental education experience for all people.
