Mission

Our mission is to transform futures through education. We provide Scholar Grants and support for women from low-income backgrounds 35 and older across the U.S. to build better lives through post-secondary education.

About

SINCE 1976, JEANNETTE RANKIN WOMEN'S SCHOLARSHIP FUND HAS PROVIDED CRITICAL SUPPORT TO LOW INCOME WOMEN OVER THE AGE OF 35 FOR POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION. WE HAVE GIVEN 1,604 SCHOLARSHIPS TO 1,016 WOMEN IN THE AMOUNT OF $3,020,000. ADDITIONALLY, WE MERGED WITH THE EMERGE SCHOLARSHIP FUND, A SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR LOW INCOME WOMEN IN GEORGIA OVER THE AGE OF 25 IN OCTOBER 2018. JEANNETTE RANKIN SCHOLARS ARE ABLE TO LEVERAGE THE SCHOLARSHIP, USING IT TO FILL IN THE GAPS FOR EXPENSES NOT COVERED BY OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS INCLUDING: BOOKS, CHILDCARE, HOUSING EXPENSE, AND CAR REPAIRS. THERE ARE MULTIPLE STORIES ABOUT HOW A SMALL CASH SHORTFALL CREATED A DOWNWARD SPIRAL. A FLAT TIRE OR UNEXPECTED MEDICAL EXPENSE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO END A COLLEGE EDUCATION FOR OUR SCHOLARS. OUR GOAL IS TO MAKE SURE THAT THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN TO OUR SCHOLARS. WE PROVIDE COACHING AND SUPPORT, HELPING OUR NONTRADITIONAL STUDENTS NAVIGATE THE OFTEN CHALLENGING POST-SECONDARY ENVIRONMENT. THIS YEAR WE IMPLEMENTED OUR SCHOLAR RESOURCE NETWORK (SAME AS AN EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM) TO GIVE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT TO OUR SCHOLARS. OVER HALF OF OUR SCHOLARS ACCESSED AND USED THE SERVICES PROVIDED. WE AWARDED A TOTAL OF 132 FULL $2,000 SCHOLARSHIPS IN 2018/19. WE ESTABLISHED A NEW PROGRAM CALLED THE EMERGING SCHOLARS FINISH LINE FUNDS DESIGNED TO HELP WOMEN STUDENTS IN THE TECHNICAL COLLEGE SYSTEM OF GEORGIA (TCSG.) THIS PROGRAM ASSISTS WOMEN WHO ARE ALREADY ENROLLED AND IN DANGER OF BEING "PURGED" FROM THE SYSTEM BECAUSE OF A SHORTFALL IN THEIR FUNDING, OFTEN LESS THAN $500. THESE RETROACTIVE SCHOLARSHIPS, IN THE AMOUNT OF $11,246 HELPED 34 WOMEN ACROSS TCSG TO STAY IN SCHOOL OR COMPLETE THEIR EDUCATION. OUR SCHOLARS ARE SUCCEEDING AT INCREDIBLE RATES. LAST YEAR 91% OF JRF SCHOLARS EITHER GRADUATED OR CONTINUED ON TOWARDS COMPLETING THEIR DEGREE, AND HISTORICALLY 65% OF JRF SCHOLARS HAVE OBTAINED A POST-SECONDARY DEGREE COMPARED TO A NATIONAL AVERAGE OF ONLY 31% FOR THIS DEMOGRAPHIC OF STUDENT.
