SEE SCHEDULE OBLUMENTHAL PRESENTED 467 DIVERSE PERFORMANCES OF MUSIC, MUSICAL THEATER, PLAYS, DANCE, COMEDY AND ORIGINAL WORKS ON SIX STAGES STRETCHED ACROSS FIVE BLOCKS IN UPTOWN CHARLOTTE THIS YEAR. EDUCATION, OUTREACH AND ACCESS PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH, FAMILIES, AND ADULTS WERE OFTEN UNDERWAY SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK. IN TOTAL LAST YEAR, BLUMENTHAL PERFORMING ARTS HOSTED OVER 800 PERFORMANCES, CLASSES, EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES ON ITS THREE CAMPUSES IN UPTOWN CHARLOTTE.BLUMENTHAL PERFORMING ARTS MISSION IS TO PRESENT THE BEST IN THE PERFORMING ARTS AND, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OTHERS, SHARE AND EMPLOY THE ARTS AS A MAJOR CATALYST TO STRENGTHEN EDUCATION, BUILD COMMUNITY COHESIVENESS AND ADVANCE ECONOMIC GROWTH. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH A VARIETY OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS SUCH AS THE BLUMEY AWARDS, WHICH CELEBRATES EXCELLENCE IN HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATER, AND THROUGH THE JUNIOR THEATER PROGRAM FOR ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS, WHICH USES MUSICAL THEATER TO FOSTER CREATIVITY, PROBLEM SOLVING, TEAMWORK, CONFIDENCE, SPEAKING ABILITY, AND A STRONGER AFFINITY FOR SCHOOL. OPEN MIC NIGHTS, THE CHARLOTTE JAZZ FESTIVAL, SOUNDS ON THE SQUARE AND OTHER FREE OPPORTUNITIES BUILD COMMUNITY AROUND FAMILY PARTICIPATION IN THE PERFORMING ARTS. 2019 MARKED THE RETURN OF CHARLOTTE SHOUT, A WEEKLONG, COMMUNITY-WIDE FESTIVAL THAT OFFERED BOTH FREE AND TICKETED EVENTS SHOWCASING PERFORMING ARTS, VISUAL ARTS, FOOD AND BEVERAGE OFFERINGS, AND INNOVATIVE PRESENTATIONS. A SIGNATURE PROGRAM, ARTS FOR ALL, LEVERAGES COMMUNITY DONATIONS TO PROVIDE TICKETS TO THE HOTTEST SHOWS FOR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES WHO OTHERWISE WOULD BE SHUT OUT FROM PERFORMANCES LIKE DISNEY'S ALADDIN. OVER 3,100 TICKETS WERE PURCHASED FOR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES THIS YEAR THROUGH ARTS FOR ALL INITIATIVES.THE PROGRAMMING THAT BLUMENTHAL PRESENTS HAS BECOME AN ECONOMIC POWERHOUSE, AS WELL, AND INFUSED MORE THAN $58.3 MILLION INTO OUR AREA ECONOMY THIS PAST YEAR. BLUMENTHAL PERFORMING ARTS REACHED MORE THAN 300,000 INDIVIDUALS LAST YEAR ALONE AND HAS ALTERED THE CULTURE, ECONOMY, AND LANDSCAPE OF THE CHARLOTTE REGION IN WAYS THAT ENRICH ALL ITS CITIZENS.
