Shelter services: In 2018, the Jacksonville Humane Society cared for more than 8,000 cats and dogs. We also saved more than 4,100 underage kittens through our kitten university and foster programs, saved hundreds of puppies, spayed/neutered over 7,500 pets to prevent future homeless pet populations and educated thousands of youth and adults. Our pet safety net program provided more than 3,000 families with the resources they needed so they would not have to surrender their pets during times of financial and personal crisis. In 2018, JHS, along with our partners, was able to sustain no kill status citywide making Jacksonville one of the largest cities in the United States to do so. No kill means that more than 90% of animals entering shelters in Jacksonville, citywide, make it out alive.
