THE FLORIDA SOCIETY OF CLINICAL ONCOLOGY IS A STATEWIDE NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION COMMITTED TO FACILITATING AND PROMOTING MULTIDISCIPLINARY EFFORTS TO IMPROVE PATIENT CARE IN FLORIDA BY: -FOSTERING ACCESS TO QUALITY CANCER CARE TO THE CITIZENS OF FLORIDA. -ASSISTING THE CANCER PRACTITIONERS IN PROVIDING THE MOST COST EFFECTIVE QUALITY CARE FOR THEIR PATIENTS. -ACTING AS AN ADVOCATE FOR FLORIDA CANCER PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES. -COORDINATING THE DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION AND PROVIDING AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ONCOLOGISTS, PHYSICIANS, AND OTHER HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS TO NETWORK AND EXCHANGE INFORMATION.

EDUCATION FLASCO PROVIDES TWO EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS FOR ITS MEMBERS PER YEAR COVERING SCIENTIFIC AND BUSINESS OF ONCOLOGY TOPICS. IN ADDITION, EACH YEAR FLASCO HOLDS A BUSINESS OF ONCOLOGY SUMMIT FOR ITS MEMBERS. IN 2017, FLASCO CONTINUED AND GREW A BUSINESS OF ONCOLOGY CONFERENCE IN PUERTO RICO WHICH WAS VERY WELL ATTENDED AND HAD EXCELLENT EVALUATIONS. THIS WAS A CONTINUATION OF THE EVENT THAT BEGAN IN 2010. FLASCO HAS PREVIOUSLY SPONSORED AN ASCO YOUNG INVESTIGATOR'S AWARD FOR FLORIDA FELLOWS AND IS CURRENTLY SUPPORTING EDUCATIONAL GRANTS TO FACILITATE FELLOW TRAVEL TO NINE DIFFERENT ONCOLOGY CONFERENCES. THROUGH THESE GRANT OPPORTUNITIES, FELLOWS HAVE THE CHANCE TO EXPAND THEIR TRAINING BY PARTICIPATING IN THESE MEETINGS, FACILITATE COLLABORATION, LEARNING, PROFESSIONAL NETWORKING, AND BECOME INVOLVED IN THE SOCIETIES OF PEER PROFESSIONALS. OPPORTUNITIES FOR ACTIVE PARTICIPATION AND LEARNING OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE ASPECTS OF CLINICAL CARE THROUGH FLASCO MEMBER MENTORSHIP AND COMMITTEE INVOLVEMENT ARE ENCOURAGED. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN FLORIDA AFTER FELLOWSHIP CAN BE FACILITATED THROUGH FLASCO MEMBERS AND ADMINISTRATION. JUNIOR FACULTY AND RECENT GRADUATES ARE ALSO ENCOURAGED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THESE RESOURCES, PARTICULARLY THE MENTORSHIP, EDUCATIONAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE ASPECTS OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH FLASCO. FLASCO FELLOW MEMBERSHIP AND ASSOCIATED BENEFITS ARE FREE TO ANY TRAINEE OF A FLORIDA HEMATOLOGY OR MEDICAL ONCOLOGY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM. FLASCO HAS A WEEKLY NEWSLETTER, FAX BLAST, TRANSMITTED VIA FAX OR EMAIL TO ALL MEMBERS AND TO THE CORPORATE SPONSORS, FLORIDA MEDICARE, AND ALL OF THE PRIVATE INSURANCE PAYERS. PROVIDED 5 EDUCATIONAL EVENTS FOR CANCER PATIENTS AND THEIR CAREGIVERS, PROVIDING INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR DISEASE, TREATMENT OPTIONS, FINANCIAL SUPPORT, AND THE IMPORTANCE OF A CAREGIVER. PROVIDE TWO EDUCATIONAL MEETINGS EACH YEAR SPECIFICALLY FOR NURSES, NURSE PRACTITIONERS, AND PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS, WHICH HAVE BEEN VERY WELL RECEIVED AND DRAW OVER 100 ONCOLOGY HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS.
