About this organization

Nathaniel's Hope is dedicated to sharing hope and practical assistance with kids with special needs (VIP kids) and their families. This includes: * Providing programs and resources that encourage VIP kids and their families * Offering practical assistance of FREE respite care for VIP kids and their siblings * Educating and equipping the community on how to be a Buddy to VIP kids and their families by supplying tools, training, resources, and opportunities to connect with and reach out to VIP kids and their families Kids with special needs are our VIPs! VIP kids are kids with any type of special need, which includes any physical, cognitive, medical or hidden disability, chronic or life-threatening illness, or those who are medically fragile. We believe that each life is valuable and is not defined by disability. Buddies are friends of VIPs. It is our desire to cheer on and support VIP kids with all types of special needs and their families as they sometimes face a difficult journey in life. We believe that every VIP kid has purpose and should be valued, and we strive to emphasize their abilities rather than their limitations. We believe that as we educate the community about disability, we will alleviate fears about interacting with the special needs community. We recognize that sometimes people are uncomfortable simply because they do not understand the needs of the disability community. Oftentimes people want to do something but do not know what to do. By equipping the community with training and programs, we engage local participation in befriending and assisting kids with disabilities and their families, thus multiplying our efforts. In doing so, we find that the individuals in the local community who take the time to be a buddy and reach out and engage with VIP kids are forever impacted. An indelible mark is imprinted in their hearts and lives as our VIP friends teach valuable lessons.

Nathaniel's Hope celebrates children with special needs (VIP kids) and their families as well as educates and equips the general population, particularly churches to practically assist these kids and families. All programs and services are provided FREE to VIP kids and their families. Nathaniel's Hope currently serves over 15,000 VIP kids throughout the year. We have developed four major programs and utilize thousands of volunteers to accomplish our mission cost effectively. The primary programs of Nathaniel's Hope include: (1) "Buddy Break" - A FREE Parent's Day Out/Respite Care program for VIP kids and siblings. Nathaniel's Hope has trained over 265 churches from 32 states, Puerto Rico, Bristol England and developing in South Africa in our growing network of partnering churches offering our program. The program serves over 2,000 children and their siblings each month giving caregivers a much needed break. (2) "VIP International Birthday Club" - VIP kids of all ages can become Club members and are initially sent a "Bearing Hope" teddy bear, then a birthday card and special surprises on their birthday, and other special recognition throughout the year. Children can also have their photograph posted online. Nathaniel's Hope currently hosts over 15,000 VIP children from all 50 states & several US territories and 8 countries. (3) "Christmas with Nathaniel's Hope" has now expanded to 3 programs. "Caroling for Kids" sends caroling teams into children's hospitals on Christmas Day to share hope and encouragement with patients, families and caregivers through caroling and bearing goodies and gifts. In 2019, approximately 250 carolers participated. "Nathaniel's Toy Shop" invites parents of kids with special needs who are in financial need shop for FREE donated toys for their VIP kids and siblings. In 2019 Nathaniel's Toy Shop provided toys for over 5,000 VIP kids & siblings. "Caroling Caravan" are teams of people that deliver toys to homebound VIP families at Christmastime. (4) Make 'm Smile is an annual festival celebrating kids with special needs held annually in downtown Orlando. This biggest party in the U.S. hosted over 40,000 people including over 3,000 VIP kids for the 17th annual event. In addition to being a one of a kind disability-friendly fun festival that enables all to participate, 120 resource exhibitors who serve the special needs community were in attendance educating VIP families about much needed resources that might enhance the lives of their VIP children. Nathaniel's Hope took Make 'm Smile on the road and piloted its first event in Hartville, Ohio spreading smiles to hundreds of VIPS of all ages! Nathaniel's Hope also partners with business organizations from the community to host Keep 'm Smile events. These are free fun events for VIP kids and their families. i.e, Fun Spot invited 1,000 kids with special needs to enjoy a one day all-day pass along with 1 caregiver for FREE for the 4th consecutive year.
