CHRISTINE M KLEINERT INSTITUTE FOR HAND & MICRO-SURGERY,INC. ("THE ORGANIZATION') IS A PRIVATE, NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION WITH A MISSION OF EDUCATION AND RESEARCH IN THE FIELD OF HAND AND MICRO-SURGERY. A PRIMARY FOCUS IS A HAND SURGERY FELLOWSHIP AS WELL AS RESEARCH PERFORMED BY CMKI FACULTY, FELLOWS AND STAFF. IN ADDITION, THE ORGANIZATION HOUSES HAND THERAPY AND ORTHOTICS, WHICH PROVIDES PATIENT CARE AND ALSO PARTICIPATES IN THE EDUCATION OF FELLOWS AND IN RESEARCH. THE ORGANIZATION RECEIVES ITS SUPPORT PRIMARILY FROM PATIENT BILLINGS, DONATIONS AND GRANTS. HAND SURGERY FELLOWSHIP: THE HAND SURGERY FELLOWSHIP RECEIVED FULL ACCREDITATION FORM THE ACGME IN 2018. A TOTAL OF 8 ACGME FELLOWS AND 10 INTERNATIONAL FELLOWS GRADUATED FROM THE PROGRAM IN 2018. IN ADDITION IN JULY AND AUGUST OF 2018, 8 ACGME AND 11 INTERNATIONAL FELLOWS STARTED THEIR FELLOWSHIPS. THERE WAS NO INCOME FOR THE HAND SURGERY FELLOWSHIP. RESEARCH IN THE FIELD OF HAND SURGERY: THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 15 MANUSCRIPTS ACCEPTED FOR PUBLICATION IN 2018, AS WELL AS FOUR ADDITIONAL MANUSCRIPTS SUBMITTED AND UNDER REVIEW. THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 12 ABSTRACTS ACCEPTED FOR ORAL PRESENTATION AT MEETINGS. THE FACULTY AND FELLOWS ATTENDED THE ANNUAL TRISTATE MEETING IN CINCINNATI. THE VISITING PROFESSOR THIS YEAR WAS DR. SANG HYUN WOO OF KOREA, AND HE WAS HOSTED IN OCTOBER OF 2018. DR KAUFMAN WAS ELECTED AS THE SECRETARY OF THE BOARD FOR THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF RECONSTRUCTIVE TRANSPLANTATION, AND WILL SERVE A TWO YEAR TERM. WE SCREENED FOUR HAND TRANSPLANT CANDIDATES AND ARE CURRENTLY CONSIDERING LISTING ONE OF THESE PATIENTS FOR TRANSPLANT. THE PROJECT OF TDCS TO INCREASE FUNCTION IN MEDIAN NERVE REPAIR PATIENTS IN COLLABORATION WITH DR. SCOTT FREY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI WAS INITIATED IN 2018. THE HAND THERAPY DEPARTMENT CONTINUTED TO SEE PATIENTS FOR HAND THERAPY AND PARTICIPATED IN BOTH THE HAND TRANSPLANT PROGRAM AS WELL AS THE TDCS PROGRAM.
