The prevention education department at Chattanooga Cares d/b/a Cempa Community Care provides prevention education and support to more than 20,000 people across 23 counties in Tennessee annually. The staff directs programs in schools, churches, rehabilitation centers, juvenile detention centers, prisons, community centers and substance abuse organizations. These programs teach about HIV, STIs, and, most importantly, risk reduction and healthy behaviors. In addition to conducting over 9,000 free rapid HIV tests each year, the prevention education staff conducts almost 500 free rapid hepatitis C tests each year and is the only local organization to offer such service.
