Mission
Our Mission: Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. Our Vision: A world where everyone has a decent place to live. At HFHSPBC, we are committed to our mission of improving the quality of life in local communities and of empowering the future homeowner families who partner with us to build their homes and to pay an interest free affordable mortgage. Our goal is to provide a full range of resources for our homeowner families, giving them the "hand-up" they need to lead sustainable lives, and to be good parents, good neighbors and good citizens. Founded in 1991, HFHSPBC has built 127 homes and completed 121 Neighborhood Revitalization Projects in the South Palm Beach County cities of Boca Raton, Delray Beach & Boynton Beach. This achievement has been shared by over 14,000 volunteers who have supported our work in order to help build homes for area families in need. The families we partner with earn less than 60% of the AMI (area median income). Often housing cost burden them and force them to choose between vital necessities of life - medical & dental insurance, transportation, education, healthy food. HFHSPBC mission supports the creation of affordable housing to reduce the burden of rental costs on these families. A unique aspect of our program is the requirement that our families become working partners who roll up their sleeves and participate in building homes and volunteering at the ReStores. Each family is required to contribute 400 "Sweat Equity" hours of volunteer work, building an investment in their own outcomes. The families are welcomed into our vast volunteer network that is working each day to strengthen the communities we serve, contributing to the quality of life in Boynton Beach, Delray Beach and Boca Raton. At HFHSPBC, we are not only changing lives, we are transforming them, creating an impact that will positively influence the stability and sustainability of the next generation. Fifty-four percent of those we serve are children. As the lives of their families are transformed, we are creating a foundation that will help catapult the next generation out of poverty. In addition to the expected outcomes for the partner families, we expect to increase our annual volunteer base from 2000 to 2500. Through our volunteer work, we expect they will gain civic pride, self-esteem, job skills and potential employment. Through shelter we build strength, stability and self-reliance.
