The Mission Of The Aids Institute Is To Promote Action For Social Change Through Public Policy, Research, Advocacy, And Education.

About

The AIDS Institute's (TAI) state and federal policy for HIV, viral hepatitis, STD's and health care access is the core of the policy portfolio. They use the social determinants of health to help guide other issues they work on as it relates to barriers and access to prevention, care and treatment. Through their work with the state officials, the administration, executive agencies, congress, media, and national/community partners, they impact social change through improved policies, legislation, and resource allocation. These activities often impact the entire country. While the focus of TAI's mission is HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis, their goal is to prevent new infections for all those at risk, which are often at risk for other STI's. TAI works to ensure prevention, care and treatment are available for everyone regardless of socioeconomic status or geographic region. They fight for those who are living with HIV and hepatitis, and are leaders on issues, process, and focus on impact. TAI's leadership has had significant success in protecting patients' rights, access to healthcare, especially to prescription medications, for patients in many disease groups. TAI is continually leading and convening partners and stakeholders on numerous HIV/AIDS policy and advocacy issues. Some of TAI's successful policy and advocacy activities include: State and Federal policy and program analysis and recommendations; Implementation of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy and Plan to End HIV, State and Federal Budget & Appropriations; AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP); Healthcare reform & the Affordable Care Act, Prevention and testing including HIV and hepatitis, Advancing HIV/AIDS Health Policy, State and federal grass roots advocacy, HIV/AIDS education, training, and capacity building; Social, clinical and behavioral research; Policy research initiatives related to hepatitis, housing, nutrition, and global and mental health; Media relations and presentations at national conferences.
