THE OPERATION OF A TUITION-FREE PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL, SERVING GRADES K-12. THE SCHOOLS ACADEMIC PROGRAM IS INCORPORATED WITH AN INTEGRATION OF THE ARTS.

A TOTAL OF 1,033 STUDENTS ATTENDED ARKANSAS ARTS ACADEMY DURING THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR. THIS YEAR 5 STUDENTS WERE RECOGNIZED AS GOVERNOR SCHOLAR RECIPIENTS AND ONE STUDENT WAS A HIGH SCHOOL MERIT SCHOLAR FINALIST. WE HAVE BEEN ASKED TO APPLY FOR NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON STATUS. AWARDED BY THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO SCHOOLS CREATING SAFE AND WELCOMING SCHOOLS WERE STUDENTS MASTER CHALLENGING CONTENT. THE BLUE RIBBON FLAG IS A SYMBOL OF EXEMPLARY TEACHING AND LEARNING. IN 2018, 566 STUDENTS WERE ENROLLED IN GRADES K-6. STUDENTS PERFORMANCE IN STANDARD TESTING IS INLINE WITH THE REGIONAL TEST SCORES AND BETTER THAN THE STATE SCORES, RECEIVING A GRADE "B" FROM THE STATE. A TOTAL OF 467 SECONDARY STUDENTS WERE ENROLLED IN GRADES 7-12. STUDENTS CONTINUE TO SHOW GROWTH IN TESTING AND IMPROVEMENTS IN THE STATE AND ACT TESTING SCORES. THE HIGH SCHOOL RECEIVED AN GRADE "A" FROM THE STATE FOR THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW AND CONTINUES TO RECEIVE "ARKANSAS RECOGNITION SCHOOL STATUS".GRADES 7 AND 8 MOVED INTO THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL IN ORDER TO ACCLIMATE THEM TO THE CHANGING OF CLASSES AND BETTER PREPARE THEM FOR 9TH GRADE. THE INTENT IS TO IMPROVE GPA SCORES AND COLLEGE/SCHOLARSHIP ACCEPTANCE.THE NUMBER OF CORE TEACHERS HAS INCREASED OVER THE LAST FOUR YEARS TO 19. PART OF THIS IS GROWTH AND PART IS DUE TO THE INCREASED LEVEL OF AP COURSES AVAILABLE (9 AS OF THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR).ADDITIONALY, HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL CLASS SCHEDULES WERE ADJUSTED IN ORDER TO GROUP ALL CORE AND ART CLASSES. GROUPING THE CLASSES REDUCED CHANCES OF INTERRUPTIONS OF CORE CLASSES AND ALLOWS THE ART CLASSES TO COLLABORATE IN THE SAME PERIODS. ARKANSAS ARTS ACADEMY ALSO OFFERS A SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM SERVING APPROXIMATELY 106 IN THE 2018 FISCAL YEAR. OTHER SERVICES INCLUDED PHYSICAL THERAPY, OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY AND SPEECH THERAPY.THE NEW HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING CREATES A SAFER 7-12 GRADE ENVIRONMENT WITH SAFETY GATES, SAFER ENTRANCES, WALLS THAT COME DOWN IN AN EMERGENCY AT THE END OF EACH HALL AND MULTIPLE CAMERAS. A NEW K-6 FACILITY IS IN DESIGN, BUT IN THE MEANTIME THE AVAILABLE OLD CHURCH SPACE HAS BEEN TURNED INTO A 6TH GRADE CENTER. PROVIDNG A SAFER ENVIRONMENT AS THE CHILDREN DO NOT NEED TO CROSS THE STREET FOR ART CLASSES.
