About this organization
Mission
To provide a home type setting to hospice patients due to circumstances in their lives who are in need of a place to live out their last days, at no cost.
About
Our long-range goal of constructing a hospice residence for St. Tammany Parish for patients was accomplished on March 5, 2014. The hospice house is a home designed to allow terminally ill patients who are in a preferred hospice program with the hospice foundation, a place to stay during their final days at no cost. This is the only home of this type in the community. During 2018, the hospice foundation of the south spent approximately $160,000 on caregivers to care for approximately 40 patients. The home has 3 bedrooms and each room has its own bathroom and a screened in porch area. There is a living room for families to congregate. The home also has a kitchen and dining room for residents and family members to have a special occasion, or just a dinner together. The hospice foundation of the south has agreements with several hospice programs that recommend qualified people to the home. In order to be in a hospice program, your doctor has to certfity that you are appropriate for hospice care. The programs then go through their process to admit the patient to their service. During the admittance process, the preferred hospice providers will discuss if the hospice home might be appropriate, then they contact us for availability.
