About

Research: Mountain Studies Institute (MSI) connects scientists and stakeholders across the San Juan Mountain region to apply the results of scientific inquiry and make a difference for local communities. Toward that end, we completed and facilitated research which explores solutions to natural resource issues specifically to: - enhance and protect air and water quality - understand climate variability and change - track changes in biological diversity, and forest health - assist mountain communities in transition from extraction economies. In 2018, MSI worked on 84 projects, including 47 research and monitoring projects. Other work included facilitating historic restoration and university research. MSI collaborated with more than 100 partner organizations to advance mountain science and to build resilience in the San Juan region.
