Mission

The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity, is the sole umbrella organization for animal welfare in NYC. Since 2003, we have worked with our coalition of 150+ rescue groups and shelters to find homes for thousands of New York City's dogs and cats to transform New York City into a more humane community, where no dogs or cats of reasonable health or temperament are killed simply because they do not have homes. While we work collaboratively with the City of New York, we are a 501(c)(3) charity and do not receive any government funding, nor are we a city agency. The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals is committed to seeing the day when no New York City dog or cat of reasonable health and temperament is killed merely because he or she does not have a home.

About

TO ACHIEVE THE GOALS SET OUT IN OUR MISSION (REDUCE EUTHANASIA OF CATS AND DOGS IN NYC SHELTERS), THE ALLIANCE IDENTIFIED, DEVELOPED AND IMPLEMENTED INITIATIVES THAT CONTINUE TO HAVE THE GREATEST IMPACT ON ONE OR MORE OF THE FOUR CORE OBJECTIVES. THE OBJECTIVES ARE OUTLINED BELOW: *INCREASED ADOPTIONS/DECREASE EUTHANASIA - KEY INITIATIVES AND COORDINATION OF SERVICES PROPELLED THE ALLIANCE FORWARD AND CONTINUED TO BE INSTRUMENTAL IN MAINTAINING THE COMMUNITY LIVE RELEASE RATE IN NEW YORK CITY ABOVE 92 PERCENT. LIVE RELEASE INCLUDES ADOPTIONS, TRANSFERS TO RESCUE PARTNERS FOR ADOPTION, AND RETURN TO OWNERS. *STRENGTHEN RESOURCES - BY COORDINATION OF SERVICES AND PROGRAMS FOCUSED ON PROMOTING AND MAINTAINING THE COMMUNITY COLLABORATION FORMED OVER THE PAST DECADE AND A HALF. THESE INCLUDE PROGRAMS LIKE "WHEELS OF HOPE" THAT FACILITATED THE TRANSFER AND DISTRIBUTION OF DOG AND CATS FROM CITY SHELTER TO OUR RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS AND PARTNERS. *DECREASE HOMELESSNESS - DETER ABANDONMENT THROUGH INFORMATION, RESOURCES AND EDUCATION. PROMOTE MICROCHIPPING TO IMPROVE THE LIKELIHOOD OF REUNITING LOST PETS WITH THEIR GUARDIANS, INCREASE THE NUMBER OF SPAYS AND NEUTERS IN BOTH THE PET AND FERAL COMMUNITIES. AS PART OF OUR CONTINUING EFFORTS TO SOLVE THE FERAL CAT OVERPOPULATION CRISIS IN NEW YORK CITY THROUGH THE HUMANE, EFFECTIVE METHOD OF TRAP-NEUTER-RETURN (TNR), THE NEW YORK CITY FERAL CAT INITIATIVE (NYCFCI) OF THE MAYOR'S ALLIANCE FOR NYC'S ANIMALS CONTINUED IN 2019 TO ENGAGE AND SUPPORT FERAL CAT CARETAKERS BY PROVIDING THEM WITH INFORMATION, ASSISTANCE, AND TNR AND SPECIALIZED TRAINING, SUCH AS BOTTLE-FEEDING, TAMING KITTENS, AND NEIGHBORHOOD RELATIONS. THE ALLIANCE'S NYC FERAL CAT INITIATIVE PROVIDED SPECIALTY TRAINING WORKSHOPS IN BOTTLE FEEDING, TAMING KITTENS, SHELTER BUILDING, NEIGHBOR RELATIONS, AND OTHER AREAS OF EXPERTISE. *RAISE AWARENESS - THROUGH TRADITIONAL AND ELECTRONIC MEDIA, SOCIAL NETWORKING, PUBLIC RELATIONS AND ADVERTISING TO PROMOTE THE MISSION AND GOAL TO END THE KILLING OF HEALTHY AND TREATABLE ANIMALS IN SHELTERS. TO EDUCATE CONSUMERS AND INCREASE AWARENESS OF HOMELESS ANIMALS AND THE ORGANIZATIONS THAT CARE FOR THEM.
