Founded in 1978, the mission of Ronald McDonald House (RMH) Houston is to offer a home away from home providing care, compassion and hope to families with seriously ill children being treated in Texas Medical Center (TMC) member institutions.

About

RMHH Holcombe House is a 70-bedroom/private bathroom facility located within a half mile of the Texas Medical Center that offers out-of-town families inexpensive lodging while their children are receiving in-patient and outpatient treatment at Texas Medical Center. Each family has a private bedroom and bath. The Holcombe House also offers a large communal kitchen, living and dining room, laundry facilities, a playroom, game room for teenagers, outdoor play areas, television and quiet rooms, and internet service so that families can stay in touch with other families and friends back home. The Holcombe House fulfills the RMHH mission by providing comfortable, home-like environments that encourage caring and sharing among families whose children are seriously ill. Parents and children find mutual comfort and support from other families who are experiencing similar situations. RMHH provides its services at little to no cost to lessen the stress and some of the financial burden associated with a serious illness. Volunteers actively participate in the delivery of services to the families by checking families in and out, interacting with the families, providing meals and family activities (both on and off site), and assisting with fundraisers. Additionally, the Holcombe House offers a special needs kitchen for organ and bone marrow transplant patients as well as weekday shuttle service to/from the Texas Medical Center medical institutions and area shopping. School age children are able to keep up with their studies at the on-site schoolroom operated in conjunction with the Houston Independent School District.
