The mission of Special Olympics Texas is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.[1]

Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) provides year-round sports training in 23 Olympic-type sports, more than 300 competitions statewide annually, and programming for 58,888 children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Programs also include unified sports, which pairs athletes with and without intellectual disabilities to form sports teams for training and competition; the young athletes program, which teaches sports skills to all children ages 2-7; and motor activities program, which enhances motor and sports skills for athletes unable to participate in traditional team or individual sports because of physical or behavioral limitations.
